The Global Nighttime Recovery Plan (GNRP) is a collaborative guide that empowers cities to design and implement safe strategies for reopening their creative and night-time economies. With the input of over 130 experts from 70 cities worldwide, the interactive platform shares frameworks, tools, and practices.

The Global Nighttime Recovery Plan is a series of reports facilitating a robust, sustainable, and resilient return for nighttime cultural economies post-COVID through a knowledge-sharing platform, online conferences, and published resources. We promote interdisciplinary collaborations and multinational cooperation to support vulnerable nighttime sectors.

The nighttime economy is vital to cities' vibrancy.

The nighttime economy contributes significantly to local and international industries. However, COVID-19 has severely impacted this sector globally, making it highly vulnerable.

In the UK, the nighttime economy is the fifth-largest industry, generating 1 in 8 jobs in London.

New York City's nighttime economy supports almost 300,000 jobs and contributes $35 billion to the annual economic output.

Berlin's club culture attracts three million tourists annually. The Global Nighttime Recovery Plan aims to be an accurate and flexible document,

continuously updated to adapt to changing circumstances. By linking nighttime stakeholders with experts in other fields and publishing resources beyond "best practice," the guide aims to build a supportive global network and facilitate seamless implementation of recovery programs for cities worldwide.

The GNRP is structured around seven chapters:

Chapter 1: Open-Air Nightlife & Covid-19
Chapter 2:
The Future of Dancefloors
Chapter 3:
Innovating for 24-Hour Cities
Chapter 4:
Sustaining Our Nightlife Scenes I: Nightlife Workers and Individuals
Chapter 5:
Nightlife Workers and Individuals
Chapter 6:
Sustaining Our Nightlife Scenes II: Independent Businesses

Chapter 6: Learning As We Go: Measuring and Analysing the Nighttime City

Each chapter involves esteemed contributors who provide expertise and insights.

Japan Nighttime Economy Association:

“It is essential that small and medium-sized venues build a strong relationship with the government, and develop new operating models with diversified revenue for strong sustainability.”

Eddie Hatitye, Music in Africa Foundation and GNRP interviewee.

“I wish to see the government normalising the concept of intervening in the interest of artists and not being a spectator. We need our governments to foster an enabling environment…”

Our advocacy work includes researching detailed scenes across the globe in order to understand the needs, and difficulties that each individual community is facing, then organising action-based campaigns around these issues.
